10 Ways To Meet New People (Him or Her)
Have you come to the realization that you need to meet new people? Perhaps you had a breakup, divorce or you are just stuck in rut. You finally looked in the mirror and said “I need to meet new people”.
Great, that is the first step. The next step is getting away from the TV, off the couch, out of the house, and into the world. It is time to be a reality show rather than watch one. Let’s get out, experience life and meet some new people.
10 Ways To Meet New People
1. From time to time you will get invites for casual gatherings, parties and weddings. Many of these you would rather not go because you don’t have a date or you say you won’t know anybody there. Instead you sit around watching TV or something even less exciting. Well, it is time for a change. Get up and go, accept all invitations, get involved and go out and meet some new people. Weddings can especially be a great place to meet new people. You might not think so, but there always some single people at a wedding. Everyone at a wedding is having a good time, the drinks are flowing, guards are down and it’s very easy to strike up a conversation. Become social and attend all outings, you will be surprised how many new people you will meet.
2. Become a volunteer for a local Park District, Animal Shelter or Community Organization. Donating a few hours of your time a week can not only be good for the community, but a great place to meet new people. You don’t have to donate too much time. Many of these types of organizations would be happy to have someone help out a few hours a week. If you don’t like the work or the people try a different organization, it’s not a job. People that are volunteers are usually stable and pleasant people that are happy to meet new people.
3. Check out your local bookstore for a place to hang out. There many bookstores now that serve coffee and related drinks that have an area where people will hangout and drink coffee while reading books and magazines. There are a few chains such as Barnes and Noble, and Borders. You can run into people in specific sections of the books or music, besides the coffee lounge. Meeting new people in these types of places can make it easier to start a conversation. You can opinions of books or magazines they may be looking at or reading. You could even target certain people to meet based on the types of books or magazines they are reading. Try to meet new people at the bookstore, if all else fails you might find good book or magazine.
4. Have you ever considered meeting new people by getting involved in local politics? Depending on your political views this could be a great place to meet new people with political views similar to your own. When it comes to local politics, almost everybody has an opinion. Politics is always an easy conversation starter when you want to meet new people.
5. If you are into certain types of outdoor sports or activities, a local store or shop that specializes in that type of activity may be a good place to meet new people. By being a regular customer to these types of specialty stores will put you in touch with people that enjoy the same type of activities. Very often these types of stores may host clinics or classes pertaining to activities you enjoy. Participate and become involved in these activities or clubs as a way to meet new people.
6. You can meet new people by joining a local sports league, such as softball, basketball or co-ed volleyball. Many towns and cities have these types of casual sports teams and leagues. Not only can you have some fun participating the sport, but many of these people will get together after a game at a local watering hole. It can be a great place to meet new people.
7. Step out to a local watering hole for a favored beverage by yourself. (yes, by yourself) Not some nightclub, but a local bar. When you are alone it makes your more approachable by a guy or girl. Just sitting at the bar and visiting with the bartender can work in your favor. If you hit things off with the bartender they will often introduce you to regular customers. Before you know it, you have met new people. If you did not have a favorable experience at that local bar, try a different one next time. You are not going to tie one on, so be conservative and don’t drink like a fish. You are just trying to meet some new people.
8. Try going to a local art museum and look around. If there a certain piece of art that impresses you, spend some time there and strike up a conversation with another admirer. Art can be very personal and an easy way to start making small talk. Then you guessed it, you will meet new people.
9. This one is very obvious, but a good place to meet new people. Go to a sporting event that interests you. Don’t go with a crowd, go with one friend. You are much more approachable with a friend than you are with a group of people. Sports fan of a specific team already have something in common…the same team. Conversation starting should be a breeze. From there you can talk about the team, players and then each other. When you meet new people at a sporting event it is easier to start talking to each other.
10. Number 10 is not a specific place, it is every place. Everywhere you go and every thing you do is an opportunity to meet new people. Put yourself out there, be friendly and approachable. You can strike up a conversations with just about anybody by asking their opinion of something that pertains to wherever you are. Everybody has an opinion on everything and most people are will to give it to you. Asking questions is a great way to open up people an get them talking. When you are friendly, open and ask questions you will meet new people.
If you really want to meet new people you have to put yourself out there.You won’t meet any new people on the couch watching TV. Take some chances and get out there. Meet some new people, you never know which one will be “The One”. (and I am not talking about “The Matrix”)
