A very important part of any relationship is communication and when the communication breaks down its critical that you find out the cause so you can fix the problem before it damages your relationship. The communication can break down in a relationship for any number of reasons, some of which may be financial strains, the birth of a baby and lack of trust in the relationship. No matter what the may be the cause of the communication break down, it is critical to the relationship to repair and open the lines of communication.
The birth of a baby may be a wonderful and spiritual event that both of you have been looking forward to, but the arrival of a new baby can strain a relationship. Although there may be a communication break down after you child’s birth. There are a numerous reasons why communication breaks down after the birth of a child. The addition of a child into the relationship that used to include just the two of you can be stressful. They don’t resent the attention that their partner lavishes on the new baby, but it definitely does require an adjustment period. There is a need accept the fact that they no longer have their partner’s undivided attention. While a couple learns to adjust their time requirements and ensure that both of you and your child are receiving enough attention, there will likely be a period where the stress of making these adjustments can cause a break down in communication. Typically the birth of a baby leads to a change of schedule and a period of sleep deprivation for the couple. Previously the couple was used to doing things whenever they please, now they realize that most everything must be planned around the baby’s schedule which everyone knows is unpredictable. The new schedule combined with the lack of sleep can put a great deal of pressure on the relationship. You can lessen this communication break down if the couple realizes that they need to spend with the baby and also with each other. The couple needs to understand that the lack of sleep is affecting them both and they should take turns getting up with the baby. Financial concerns is another reason why communication breaks down. Financial struggles can be extremely stressful for one or both partners in a relationship. When one partner usually handles the finances in a relationship they may try not to worry their partner so they struggle internally with the financial concerns. This may be a noble gesture, it can cause a communication break down in the relationship. The partner feels that this is a burden they need to bear on their own and then avoid talking about the subject with their partner. The problem with this scenario is that in avoiding conversations about finances they end up avoiding communication all together. A conversation about where to go out to dinner will be avoided because thinking about spending money on leisure activities causes too much stress. The partner that is not aware of the financial concerns will usually be offended by their partner’s avoidance of a conversation. A way to avoid a communication break down over finances is to share the responsibility of the finances and discuss any concerns over financial matters. When you do this neither partner becomes consumed by financial matters that can affect the relationship. Financial concerns can create enough stress to destroy even the most solid relationships by causing a communication break down.
A lack of trust is a factor that can affect communication in a relationship. If one of the partners is suspicious of the other it can create a distrust that will affect communication. If one person feels guilty in a relationship, that may result in a break down in communication. This guilt or lack of trust often ends up with the couple not wanting to communicate either because they don’t want their suspicions confirmed or because they don’t want their secret to be revealed. Feelings of guilt or suspicion can lead to strained conversations that are intentionally not meaningful. A way to avoid a break down in communication in this scenario is to be upfront with your partner. If suspicion or guilt is driving your fear of communication, being open and honest with your partner can reopen the lines of communication. You may risk having your suspicions confirmed, but you are better off being sure than destroying your relationship with doubt.
