The reasons why women cheat  in a relationship are often different than the reasons why men cheat . The reason for an man to cheat can be for wide variety of reasons including a sense of challenge, self esteem, genetics and a lack of interest in their relationship. Of course none of these are justifiable, but all of these can be reasons why a man strays or cheat on his current partner.

Why Men Cheat

Even though genetics can be a reason why men cheat on their partner it may also a poor defense for a man who is caught being unfaithful. There is a theory that the testosterone levels in men can make them more likely to be unfaithful. The theory has a basis on the belief that men are genetically predisposed to cheating because they are genetically coded from ages ago with the notion that survival of the species is dependent on their need to procreate. Even if this is in fact true it is certainly not an excuse for being unfaithful. Regardless of this being true in prehistoric times, this is certainly not true today and is not a defense for cheating on your partner. In a truly loving relationship a man should be able to control himself and be faithful despite any urges to produce offspring. Any theory of man being genetically coded to cheating does not cut the mustard because while it may be true, there is no excuse for not being able to control their urges.

No Excuse for Men to Cheat on Women

It is said that another reason men cheat is because they feel a sense of challenge of secretly being unfaithful. Being able to get away with an affair is a challenge that some men enjoy. They also enjoy the challenge of finding other women to cheat with. To them an affair is more about a conquest then anything else. Even though they enjoy the physicality of the affair, the chase and secretly running around is what really drives some men who cheat on their partners. They feel that fooling their partner is a tremendous accomplishment and they enjoy the affair without their partner learning of their cheating. To some men the thrill of running around and the fear of being caught creates an adrenaline rush that is more exciting than the affair or even their relationship. Some men will also cheat because they are driven by competition. When a man has friends that are cheating and having affairs with several women the man may feel the need to keep up with his friends. Some men consider this a way of competing with their friends. The unfaithful man is often driven by a sense of competition.

Ego and Why Men Cheat on Women

Some men cheat because doing so is an ego boost for them. Knowing  that they can find multiple women to participate in an intimate relationship with them is a self esteem builder for some men. They seem to get a “high” in the ability to attract women and don’t care that they may be destroying their relationship. The excitement of the chase is almost more important than the conquest to these men. Just knowing that other women find them desirable, is enough to fuel the ego of these men. Typically it is a lack of self esteem that drives them to participate in affairs in order to confirm  their desirability and attractiveness.

An undesirable relationship may drive a man to cheat on his partner. When the relationship starts to fizzle out and the man does not feel the same attraction he may seek out an affair. When he starts to feel that his relationship is lacking excitement he may cheat in the hopes that he will find the excitement he desires. It is better to end the deteriorating relationship before searching for a more desirable partner, but many men hold onto the relationship and engage in affairs. Usually this is because they are afraid that they may not find what they are looking for and may be left without a partner so they stay in a failing relationship figuring that it is better than none at all.

Men that cheat do it for varied reasons. There is no reason to justify being unfaithful. The many different reasons that men cheat include boredom, competition, genetics and self esteem. Genetics may play a small part in the urge for men to cheat, but the most cheating happens because men cannot control their sexual and competitive urges, are lacking self esteem or are unhappy in their relationship.
